Technical advice: what I use in the field
A collection of specific tips for tackling travel and photographic adventures, tailored to the climate and the type of activities planned. I’d like to point out that choosing the right equipment is extremely subjective and easily influenced by one’s habits and preferences, but I believe that having a direct reference of what I’ve used and tested on numerous occasions directly in the field can greatly help you find a starting point for choosing your own kit.

PHOTOGRAPHY SETUP
The kit I carry with me in the field
I prefer to work with a rather basic but very reliable setup: two camera bodies, a well-selected set of optics and some accessories that help me be faster, flexible and ready to adapt to different situations that arise in the field.
BODIES ROOM
Two bodies, more operational continuity
Nikon Z9
Nikon
It’s the body I rely on most in key situations. I’m interested in having speed, solidity and operational continuity even when conditions on the field become harder or more frenetic.
I use it mostly in the most challenging wildlife situations, when the subject is far away, the pace changes quickly and I want maximum control over the shot.
Nikon Z6III
Nikon
Having a second body ready allows me to be much more fluid on the field. I avoid I avoid unnecessary lens changes, reduce downtime, and always have a second solution ready.
I use it when I want a different focal length ready, for more ambient images, for the video or simply to work with more freedom and fewer interruptions.
LENSES & ADAPTERS
The lenses that really cover my way of working
FTZ II Adapter
Nikon
It allows me to perfectly integrate into the setup some lenses that I continue to consider fundamentals, without giving up the flexibility of the Z system.
It’s a central part of the setup when I work with the 400mm f/2.8 FL, which remains to this day. one of the most important lenses in my field kit.
Nikkor 400mm f/2.8E FL ED VR
Nikon
It’s my main telephoto lens for wildlife photography. It offers me quality, clarity. of the background, speed and a rendering that I continue to find extraordinary in situations where the subject is the real protagonist.
It comes into play whenever you need to work well at a distance, isolate the subject or build strong, clean images without having to force the approach too much on the field.
Nikkor Z 70-180mm f/2.8
Nikon
It’s the lens that allows me to broaden the story when I don’t want to always stay on the same page. main telephoto. It is very useful for more ambient images and less extreme situations.
I use it when the subject gets closer, when I want more context, or when I’m looking for a lens more versatile and lighter to keep ready on the second body.
Sigma Art 35mm f/1.4
Sigma
It’s a focal point that I find very interesting for describing atmosphere, presence and relationship between subject and environment without being too narrow or too extreme.
I use it for more narrative images, backstage moments, evening contexts or when I want to create a shot with a more direct and immersive presence.
Viltrox 20mm f/2.8 Z-Mount
Viltrox
It gives me a compact and very useful solution when I want to push more on the component environmental, on the landscape or on a broader vision of the context.
It’s perfect when the environment becomes a central part of the story, for travel images, landscapes, light shots and behind-the-scenes content.
SPECIAL TOOLS
Tools that truly complement field work
Pulsar Thermal Imager
Support tool
It is not a photographic tool in the strict sense, but in the field it can become very useful to better read the territory and identify presence or movement in certain conditions.
It helps me especially in the research phases, in complex environments or at certain times of the day where visibility and distance make reading the scene less immediate.
DJI 360
DJI
It’s useful when I want to collect more immersive content, show context in a way different or document the field experience with a more dynamic perspective.
I use it for backstage content, travel clips, environmental context and more materials. engaging to use on social media or to better tell the behind-the-scenes story.
DJI Mic Mini
DJI
Clean audio completely changes the perceived quality of video content. For this reason I prefer to always have a simple, lightweight and reliable solution.
It comes into play when I record field updates, spoken content, explanations or moments when I want to make the video part more refined without overly complicating the setup.
This kit was born from a simple idea: to carry with me what I consider truly useful in the field, without unnecessarily weighing down the setup. Each element only makes sense if it contributes to working better, with more freedom, more speed and more continuity in the situations I encounter during my photographic travels.
