FIELD LOADOUT
Norway Winter Loadout
The setup I use for cold, snow, and field photography in severe winter environments.
This is not a theoretical selection of products, but a configuration built over time to work better on the field in challenging winter conditions. Each element below has a specific role: to help me stay lucid, mobile and protected even when cold and windy are starting to really influence the way I photograph.
CLOTHING SYSTEM
Layers that build comfort
Magnum Man Jacket
ZottaForest
I need it as a reliable outer layer when the weather gets more severe. In a context like the Norwegian one I want a garment that protects well from wind, humidity and snow without restrict movement too much.
It is the item that I consider most important in complete field trips, especially when I remain exposed for several hours and I have to keep moving, observing and photographing continuously.
Malmo Man Jacket
ZottaForest
During the waiting moments, the temperature drop is immediately noticeable. This is one of those pieces that I… It allows you to maintain heat without overly complicating the management of layers.
I use it mostly during breaks, in open briefings, on stakeouts and in all those phases in which you stop walking but you have to stay focused for a long time.
Shot Man Pant
ZottaForest
I’m interested in having freedom of movement but also good protection from humidity and terrain. In winter, it doesn’t take much to lose comfort, and trousers affect it much more than it seems.
It is essential during continuous movements, stretches on snow and all situations in which I have to kneel, duck, or quickly adapt to the terrain.
Lima Man Fleece
ZottaForest
For me the mid layer must be versatile: warm enough to really make a difference, but not so excessive as to become uncomfortable as soon as the pace increases.
I use it in the more active phases of the day, when I walk enough to generate heat but I don’t want to be caught out as soon as I slow down or stop.
Danish Endurance Merino Base Layer
Base layer
The first layer is the one that determines a good part of the perception of cold throughout the day. the day. I want a garment that stays comfortable, manages humidity well and doesn’t constrict me. to continuous compromises.
It comes into play right from the start of the release and is the starting point of the entire system. When the base layer works well, the other layers work better too.
FOOTWEAR & TRACTION
Mobility and stability on the ground
AKU Superalp Therm200 GTX
AKU
In Norway, I’m looking for a boot that immediately conveys reliability. For me, protection is important, stability and a real feeling of safety when the ground becomes cold, uneven or slippery.
It is decisive in longer walks, in off-trail transfers and in all outings where The comfort of your foot directly affects the quality of your photography experience.
Snowfoot
Traction system
When the snow changes depth and consistency, have a tool that improves flotation and progression becomes a concrete advantage, not only in terms of comfort but also of efficiency.
I consider it useful on days with more snow or when the terrain is icy or steep and every energy saved can make a difference in the final clarity.
HANDS & WARMTH
Protection without losing operability
Heat 3 Smart
The Heat Company
Photographing in the cold means finding a delicate balance between protection and sensitivity. I’m interested in a system that allows me to manage the camera well without sacrificing too much heat.
It comes into play for the entire duration of the outing, but becomes really decisive when wind and inactivity begin to make it more difficult to use your hands and fingers with precision. In colder moments you can use the mitten for greater protection.
EYE PROTECTION
Protection from wind and light
SCOTT Cervina Sunglasses
SCOTT
In snowy environments, reflected light and wind can cause significant eye strain. For this reason I prefer mountain glasses that offer more serious protection, especially when working for long periods in open and very bright spaces.
It becomes especially useful on brighter days, on snowy slopes and in all situations where wind and glare make it more difficult to stay comfortable and focused. It’s one of those accessories that seem secondary, but on the field they really make a difference.
CARRY SYSTEM
Transportation and organization on the field
Fjord 50-C with RCI Unit
NYA-EVO
On outings like this I need a backpack that combines the photographic and technical aspects. without becoming an unmanageable burden. Organization and convenience really matter here.
It comes into play throughout the day, especially when I have to carry gear, extra layers and small accessories while maintaining good balance while traveling. It’s my absolute favorite backpack.
