This is a 5-day photography tour from June 10th to 14th 2026 organized to photograph the brown bear with Jonathan Giovannini and members of the JustExplorers team. The photographic sessions will be carried out on the road, mainly by car, following a style similar to the safari in search of the numerous bears that populate these lands. Each photographer will have their own window ensuring comfort and the possibility of unique shots.

Embark on a photographic adventure in the wild forests of the Carpathian Mountains in Romania , in search of the European brown bear . We’ll depart from Bucharest and head towards the majestic Carpathian Mountains, where we’ll stay in a lodge surrounded by greenery. The photography activities will take place primarily in vehicles, with each photographer having their own window for unique shots. In addition to brown bears, we may spot foxes, Ural owls, little owls, dippers, buzzards, storks, and squirrels. Thanks to the bears’ familiarity with humans, the chances of sightings are very high. We won’t use photo hides, allowing us to freely explore the forests and experience a close-up experience with nature.
Tour information:
We’ll spend five days exploring Romania’s natural landscape. We’ll explore forests, rivers, and lakes in search of the Carpathian wildlife. Photo sessions will be concentrated between dawn and dusk and will be primarily safari-style. Of course, we’ll be able to leave the car for sightings, and we’ll balance this experience with hikes, searching for other forest dwellers, and, if possible, even camouflaged hides. Sightings can often be very close, so we think this itinerary is an excellent alternative for those who don’t like waiting in a hide or are looking for a completely different experience.
We’ll be planning at least six photo sessions, three sunrises, and three sunsets. Additionally, depending on the time and availability, we can enrich the experience with other small on-site activities, including landscape photography, forest hikes, and much more. The days will be particularly long, giving us the opportunity to fully explore the area’s forests.

We’ll be staying in a welcoming hotel overlooking a spectacular lake, surrounded by lush greenery, perfect for a balance between photography and relaxation. Each participant will be accommodated in double or triple rooms. Single rooms can be requested in advance for a supplement.
DAILY PROGRAM
Day 1
- Arrival at Bucharest Otopeni Airport and meeting in the early afternoon.
- From here the transfer to the reference hotel will start (about 3.00h)
- Arrival in the late afternoon and accommodation in the rooms.
- Depending on your arrival time, we may be able to inspect the surrounding area early in the evening.
Day 2-3-4
- We’ll have two photo sessions each day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Sessions can last between 2:30 and 4:00, and times may vary depending on weather and animal activity. Departure times will be scheduled daily to ensure optimal viewing.
- The sessions will be mainly safari-style, but there will also be the opportunity to try a stalking game.
- Our target subject will be the brown bear, but with a bit of luck we might also spot foxes and various species of birdlife.
Day 5
- Wake up, breakfast and pack your bags for the return to Bucharest.
- Arrival is expected in the late morning to allow plenty of time to reach the airport for flights scheduled for the early afternoon.

What equipment will I need?
This itinerary offers a great photographic experience, so any equipment is sufficient to bring home excellent shots. Animals can be observed at all distances, therefore 70-200mm can already be enough to give satisfaction. Despite this, for portrait lovers the advice is to bring with you a focal length of at least 300mm . A medium telephoto and a wide angle lens can be useful if you are interested in photographing the landscapes and forests of Romania.

What clothing will I need ?
We recommend dressing in layers. There will be no long hikes, and activities will often take place from the car. Further details on necessary and useful clothing will be provided after registration.

Terms and Conditions
By booking by paying a deposit to the organizers, you accept the following clauses:
1. As this is a pre-registration, the organizer will endeavor to promptly communicate any possible changes in the price of the tour, characterized by cost fluctuations. An annual price fluctuation of approximately 5% is highly likely if the booking is made more than a year in advance. in relation to potential variations in the prices of ground services (for example variations influenced by the fluctuating costs of electricity, fuel and others).
2. The price of the entire workshop will be paid through the payment methods offered by the organizing body, such as bank transfer, PayPal, credit card or cash according to the procedures and deadlines established by the organizers, taking charge of the transaction costs.
3. In case the tour does not take place due to the organizer, the entire amount paid will be refunded.
4. In case of cancellation for personal reasons of any kind and in any case not dependent on the organizer, the deposit and any other registration fees will be retained as reimbursement of expenses.
5. In case of cancellation for personal reasons within 60 days of departure, the entire balance of the tour will be required.
