5-day photography tour in search of the very rare wild cat and birdlife in the Asturias region with Jonathan Giovannini and Michele Bavassano.
DESTINATION:
It will be a tour in northern Spain at the foot of Asturias in one of the wildest places in this country.
Among the valleys, mountains and rivers of this region lives, in addition to hundreds of species of birds and mammals, an incredible population of wild cats, probably with the highest density in Europe.
The summer period is the best for this species, in this period the low grass and the long days give the felines the opportunity to find plenty of prey. In fact, they spend long hunting sessions in the open field, moments that we will try to spot and photograph in the best possible way.
For birds, it is equally fascinating, as this region becomes a nesting place for various migratory species. Our trip will include mountain huts and traveling photography, guided by two experienced professionals who will be by your side every step of the way.
ABOUT THE TOUR:
Join us for an unforgettable photography adventure in fascinating Asturias! We will leave together from Madrid airport and head north, crossing splendid Spain to reach a magical area, full of breathtaking landscapes.
Our tour is designed to offer you the best of nature photography, alternating experiences of traveling photography and exclusive sessions in the shed. We will explore two extraordinary cabins: one frequented by a family of Golden Eagles and, with a bit of luck, from the mysterious wild cat; the other dedicated to vultures, where you can observe griffon vultures, black vultures, Egyptian vultures, kites and golden eagles in large numbers. But it doesn’t end here! We will have the opportunity to visit high altitude areas in search of the magnificent bluethroat, redstart and other birds that live in these altitudes. And of course, our main focus will be the wildcat. In safari style, we will scan the freshly cut meadows in search of this elusive predator, which during this period loves to hunt mice and moles in the short grass. We might even be lucky enough to spot the Iberian wolf or the Cantabrian bear!

RECOMMENDED PHOTOGRAPHIC EQUIPMENT:
A telephoto lens of 300mm or more will no doubt be indispensable for photographing the main subjects of this tour.
The use of a camera head and tripod is recommended for greater stability when shooting photos and videos.

DAY BY DAY PROGRAM:

- July 31st: arrival in Madrid in the early afternoon and transfer to the Picos de Europa National Park where we will stay for 4 nights (5h)
- August 1st : wake up at dawn and move with our guide to the areas with the highest density of wild cats. Return in the late morning and relax in the hotel. In the late afternoon we will leave for a new session dedicated to the wild cat taking advantage of the most active locations.*

- August 3 : Wake up before dawn and move to our vulture shelters. Here we will have the possibility to spend the whole day or the time necessary to take the photos you were looking for. In the afternoon, if the session is over, we will be able to explore other areas of this beautiful place
- 4th August: Breakfast and departure for Madrid with arrival in the early afternoon (about 5h). Departure from Madrid International Airport
*We will try to optimize our sessions through the experience of our guide who will help us approach the specimens in the open field to get close-up images. In fact, the wild cat here is not particularly suspicious and with the correct behavior it is possible to make excellent approaches.
